Welcome to Class 3

Autumn Term

This half term our topic is ‘Weather - Hot and Cold’. During this topic, the children will learn all about the different types of weather that we experience during the different seasons.
During our daily English and Communication Sessions, the children will be looking at several weather themed stories including ‘Shark in the Park on a Windy Day’ and ‘The Sunny Day’. They will then complete a range of activities linked to each of the stories.
During our daily Maths Sessions, the children will be exploring and learning about different 2d and 3d shapes. Throughout the term the children will complete shape hunts around school, create pictures using different 2d shapes and explore 3d shapes that roll.
In PSHE, the children will be thinking about people who are special to them at home and in school and will identify things that they like, don’t like and are good at.
Every day we will continue to work on our individual targets and enjoy lots of fun and exciting ways to learn!
 
Spring Term
 
This half term our topic is ‘Toys and Dinosaurs’. During this topic, the children will be exploring old and new toys and learning all about dinosaurs, when they lived and exploring fossils. 
During our daily English and Communication Sessions, the children will be thinking about their favourite toys, toys they used the play with when they were younger and how different toys work. Our Stories this term will be 'The Magic Toy Box' and 'The Very First Dino'. The children will complete a range of activities linked to each of the stories.
During our daily Maths Sessions, the children will be learning about position and direction. The children will learn how to move in different directions including forwards, backwards, left and right. They will then have the opportunity to program different toys to direct them around their very own obstacle course. The children will also be learning about different positions including in, out, under, on and next to. They will then practice placing toys in different positions around the magic toy box. 
In PSHE, the children will be learning about feelings and different emotions and how these make them feel. They will think about things that make them feel happy and sad and look at things that they can do when they are feeling this way. 
Our Topic in Spring 2 will be 'Journeys'. During this topic, the children will learn about different modes of transport and where they might travel on each of them.  As we read out class stories 'The Journey Home From Grandpa's House' and 'We All Go Travelling By', the children will go on two very different adventures and will complete a range of activities linked to the stories. 
In Maths, we will be learning all about time. The children will learn about different times of the day and activities we do during these times. They will also think about long and short journeys they have been on and share their experiences with their friends in class. 
In PSHE, we will be learning and thinking about the world we live in. The children will learn about the different types of jobs that people do and people who help us. 
Every day we will continue to work on our individual targets and enjoy lots of fun and exciting ways to learn!
 
Summer Term
 
Our topic this half term is 'Animals'. During this time, the children will be learning all about different animals and their habitats. The children will have the opportunity to explore and learn about animals we keep as pets, animals that live in the zoo and safari animals. 
 
During our daily English and Communication sessions, the children will be thinking about their favourite animals and completing a range of activities linked to our class stories 'Dear Zoo' and 'Rumble in the Jungle'. The children will have the opportunity to explore the different props from the story and even meet real life animals during our visit from the zoo later in the term. 
During our daily Maths sessions, the children will be learning about money. The children will explore the different coloured coins, practice matching and grouping coins together and learn how to exchange coins to buy objects from our very own class pet shop.  
During our afternoon lessons, the children will be learning about animals and their habitats and will have the opportunity to go out into the local environment and explore some animals in thier own habitats. They will also be creating animal scupltures using paper mache during our art lessons and learning and performing a range of animal songs during music. 
 
Our Topic in Summer 2 will be 'Out and About'. During this topic, the children will talk about holidays that they have been on and different activities they did. As we read our class stories ‘Sheldon’s Snail' and 'The Berenstain Bears Around the World’, the children will go on two very different adventures with the characters from the story and will complete a range of activities linked to them. 
In Maths, we will be learning all about weight. During this time, they will have the opportunity to weigh different objects to find the heaviest and lightest and will use these skills to measure out and weigh different foods when making their own snacks for our class picnic. The children will also be learning about capacity and will learn how to identify bottles of liquid which are full, half full and empty.  They will also have the chance to measure out different amounts of liquid in the water tray. 
During our afternoon lessons, the children will be exploring different materials in science and grouping them based on their texture and colour. They will be sampling a range of fruits and vegetables in food technology and will have the opportunity to design and make their own snacks for our class picnic. 
Every day we will continue to work on our individual targets and enjoy lots of fun and exciting ways to learn!
 
Key Information:
  • PE will take place on a Tuesday
  • A spare set of clothes and waterproof coat/wellies, so we are always prepared for whatever the weather brings us. 
  • As the weather is getting warmer, please could you send in some suncream and a sunhat for us to put on the children so that they are protected at lunchtime whilst playing on the playground. 
  • Snacks and/or lunch – Please make sure you have ordered a school lunch if appropriate. 
  • A little reminder to check emails for updates and messages. Please let us know if there are any issues or useful information that will help us to care for your child.
