Welcome to Class 6  

   

Autumn Term  

Our topic this half term is ’Things I like’, where we will be looking at all the different things that make us happy.  

In our English and Communication sessions, each week, we will be developing our reading, fine motor, writing and communication skills. We will be reading a variety of sensory stories, including ‘My five senses’ by Aliki and ‘My Special Place’ a Twinkl original. We will also enjoy Intensive Interaction and Attention Autism.  

The theme will continue throughout our History, PSHE and music lessons too. In science we will be exploring materials and different textures.  

In our maths sessions, we will be working on number; numeral recognition and formation and measure; learning about time.  

Every day we will continue to work on our individual targets and enjoy lots of fun and exciting ways to learn!  

Key information:  

  • PE– Takes place on a Tuesday afternoon, please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school. 
  • Please send in waterproofs and wellies if they are not already in school, so we are always prepared for whatever the weather brings us. A spare set of clothes, including underwear and socks is also really useful. 
  • Please name all items of clothing, particularly jumpers, coats, hats and PE Kit.  
  • Snacks and/or lunch – Please make sure you have ordered a school lunch if appropriate. 
  • Please let us know if there are any issues or useful information that will help us to care for your child via email or a phone call. 

Spring Term

Our topic this half term is ‘France’. 

In our English and Communication sessions, we will be developing our reading, fine motor, writing, communication and social skills. We will be reading a non-fiction text, ‘Tour of France’, learning all about France. For the second half of the half-term, our focus will be communication and social interaction, we will be building these skills through a range of structured games and activities. We will also enjoy Intensive Interaction and Attention Autism.  

The France theme will continue throughout our The World About me and My Art and Design lessons. In Science and Computing we will be exploring sound and music. Our theme for PSHE is ‘managing my feelings’. 

In our maths sessions, we will be working on measurement, learning about size, length and height.  

Every day we will continue to work on our individual targets and enjoy lots of fun and exciting ways to learn!

Summer Term

Our topic this half term is ‘On the road’.  

In our English and Communication sessions, we will be continuing to develop our reading, fine motor, writing, communication and social skills. We will be reading a fiction text called ’On the road with Mavis and Marge’. We will also be focusing our phonics on transport. We will also enjoy Intensive Interaction and Attention Autism.  

The transport theme will continue throughout our ‘The World About me’ and ‘My Music’ and ‘My Play and Leisure’ lessons. In Science we will be focusing on forces and motion. Our theme for PSHE is ‘Jobs people do’. 

In our maths sessions, we will be working on position and direction and linking our computing topic ‘data sorting’.  

Every day we will continue to work on our individual targets and enjoy lots of fun and exciting ways to learn!  

Key information:  

  • PE– Takes place on a Friday morning, please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school. 
  • Swimming – For those older pupils who are swimming (you will have been notified by letter) please send swimming kits each Monday.  
  • As the weather is beginning to improve and get warmer, please apply suncream to your child before they come to school and send a named bottle if you want us to apply throughout the day. Please encourage your child to wear clothing suitable for the weather e.g. T-shirt/shorts.  
  • Please ensure your child has at least 1 spare set of clothes, including underwear and socks in school.  
  • Please name all items of clothing, particularly jumpers, coats, hats and PE Kit.  
  • Snacks and/or lunch – Please make sure you have ordered a school lunch if appropriate. 
  • Please let us know if there are any issues or useful information that will help us to care for your child via email or a phone call.
