Welcome to Class 5 

Autumn Term 

Our topic this half term is ’Things I like’, where we will be looking at all the different things that make us happy. 

In our English and Communication sessions, each week, we will be exploring new and favoured activities, looking at variety of stories, including ‘Things I like’ by Anthony Browne and ‘Which food will you choose?’ By Claire Potter. We will be enjoying sensory phonics, Attention Autism and lots of opportunities to mark make. 

The theme will continue throughout our History, PSHE and music lessons too. In science we will be looking at moving and growing finding out about our bones and spending some time in the Forest classroom. 

Every day we will continue to work on our individual targets and enjoy lots of fun and exciting ways to learn! 

Key information: 

  • PE–Takes place on a Wednesday morning, please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school.
  • Please send in waterproofs and wellies if they are not already in school, so we are always prepared for whatever the weather brings us. A spare set of clothes, including underwear and socks is also really useful.
  • Snacks and/or lunch – Please make sure you have ordered a school lunch if appropriate.
  • Please let us know if there are any issues or useful information that will help us to care for your child via email or a phone call
Spring Term  
 
Our topic this half term is ’France’, where we will be reading stories about the country and finding out all about the French culture. 
 
In our English and Communication sessions, each week, we will be exploring French food, looking at French buildings and artists. We will be enjoying our stories ‘Escargot’ by Dashka Slater and ‘Everybody Bonjours’ by Leslie Kimmelman. We will be enjoying sensory phonics, Attention Autism and lots of opportunities to mark make.  
In PSHE we will be looking at our emotions, in RE we will be exploring the Chinese New Year and in science we will be looking at sounds. In PE we will have sessions with Superball Paul and spend time in the tactile trail. 
Every day we will continue to work on our individual targets and enjoy lots of fun and exciting ways to learn!  
Key information:  

Summer Term  

Our topic this half term is ’Animals and their habitats', we will be reading stories about a variety of different animals such as woodland, jungle, desert, farm and exploring the various places they live.
In our English and Communication sessions, each week,  we will be enjoying our stories ‘Walking through the jungle’ by Stella Blackstone and ‘Who is in the forest?’ by Phillis Gershator. We will be enjoying sensory phonics, Attention Autism and lots of opportunities to mark make.  Our maths topic is measure and learning about lengths, we will be investigating short and long using animals; giraffes, snakes, crocodiles, mice, hedgehogs etc. 
In PSHE we will be looking at healthy living, in RE we will be visiting and learning about a Hindu Mandir Temple and in science finding out about why animals choose certain habitats. In PE we will be creating our own sensory circuits and finding out about how they can help us and taking lots of walks around our beautiful surroundings, using a camera to take photos too. During our music sessions we will be making music, movement and singing about animals and copying how they move. 
Every day we will continue to work on our individual targets and enjoy lots of fun and exciting ways to learn!
