Chestnut 2025 - 2026
Mrs Fiona Prescott
Welcome to Chestnut Class!
Summer Term
Our topic for this half term is Spring and Life Cycles followed by Colour for the last half term. We have lots of fun activities planned to get out and enjoy the beautiful outside areas around school as part of our learning.
In our English and communication sessions, we will be reading a variety of sensory stories, including “When Spring Comes”, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear. What do you see?” and “Dog’s Colourful Day”.
In our problem solving and Maths sessions, we will be looking at Shape, exploring whole and half objects (Fractions) followed by Handling Data (Number) and starting to explore length (Measure). Alongside this we will be learning more about computers and how things work by exploring simple programming activities.
Throughout the term we will be learning more about the world around us, looking at different cultures and beliefs. In RE we will be enjoying the story “Bilal and the Beautiful Butterfly” (Islam) followed by the "Story of Creation" (Hinduism). In Geography and History we will continue learning more about the world around us by exploring different flags from around the world and traditional clothes from the countries we travel to.
Science will see us enjoying the outside areas even more as we learn about living things and their habitats and exploring light and having fun with our shadows.
PE will take place on Fridays, and we will be developing key body movement skills. We will also be developing independence when changing into and out of PE kits.
