Chestnut 2025 - 2026
Mrs Fiona Prescott
Welcome to Chestnut Class!
This Autumn term we will be spending time getting to know and build relationships with new staff and new peers in class. We will be doing this through our two exciting topics - Me and my friends and traditional fairy tales.
In our English and communication sessions, we will be reading a variety of sensory stories, including “The Chestnut Tree”, Titch” and later in the term “Three Little Pigs” and “The Gingerbread Man”. During these stories we will be developing our reading, fine motor, writing, communication and listening skills.
In our problem solving and Maths sessions, we will be looking at Number – Place Value and time. Alongside this we will be learning about the technology around us and what a computer is by exploring different objects which use a computer. During these sessions we will be developing our fine motor, numeracy and problem-solving skills.
Throughout the term we will be learning about ourselves, who is important to us including getting to know our new friends here in Chestnut class and where we live through our PSHE, Science and Geography lessons.
PE will take place on Friday mornings, and we will be developing key body movement skills in gymnastics. We will also be developing independence when changing into and out of PE kits.

- Snacks and/or lunch – Please make sure you have ordered a school lunch if appropriate. Please also send enough snacks for your child and send juice if they prefer to drink this.
I will continue to keep you updated via email, if there is any important information that might help us support your child as well as special achievements or moments from home please do share them with us, via email: chestnut@hillside.lancs.sch.uk
We are very much looking forward to the year ahead.
