Welcome back to you all, we hope you have had a lovely summer in the sunshine!

This Autumn term we will be spending time getting to know and build relationships with new staff and new peers in class and becoming more familiar with our new classroom, we will be working on identifying and developing our own self-regulation strategies suitable to our new environment.  

Our English text will be The Emperors New Clothes. Alongside further developing our writing, reading and comprehension skills, we will be completing lots of fun, creative activities such as designing our own costume and participating in our own parade.  

In Maths we will be further developing our number skills and learning how to measure using a variety of different tools around the lovely school grounds. 

In Science we will be having fun learning and exploring light and shadows, hopefully the sun continues to shine for us so we can explore shadows outdoors. 

As a class we will be working on our wellbeing and confidence around transitioning (Asdan, PSHE, PE) participating in activities such as yoga, dance, Thrive and cooking. 

This Spring term, our topic is Coasts, Rivers and Water, which we will be exploring across the curriculum. In Maths, we will be looking at measure including temperature and capacity while also developing skills in addition and subtraction. Geography and DT will have a focus on water, beaches and coasts. In Science, we will be learning about Electricity learning how to make things work with or without the use of electricity.
 
ASDAN is a big part of our curiculum however this is linked to as many curriculum subjects as possible. This term our topic is 'Knowing How' and will cover a broad range of skills.  
In RE, we will study Christianity and in PE we are going swimming. The pupils will combine all skills relating to swimming with PSHE including self-care and personal hygiene. But most importantly we will be having lots of fun.
 
Summer term in Walnut class is going to be busy, but lots of fun!
 
In English we will be working on different skills such as phonics, spelling, using capital letters for names, comprehension and speaking and listening. 
 
In Mathematics, we are looking at position and direction as well as ratio and proportion. 
 
In Science, we will be learning about living things and their habitats. Focusing on animals in the land, sea and sky and comparing habitats. We will then go on to look at simple food chains. 
 
In Geography, we will be looking at cities and the countryside. We will explore what we can see and hear in each different settings and compare the two. 
 
In R.E, we will focus on the religion of Christianity, with the topic "What is a church?". The themes will include the wider church life/community and church visits. 
 
In other subjects, we will be participating in food tech for DT. P.E will include different outdoor activities. In Computing, we will be looking at what the internet is. Makaton will be linked to our science topic and animals. PSHE will be linked to ASDAN where we will be looking at employment, having visits to businesses in the community to learn about employability, supporting our future independent living.
